Few things stall a campaign like a payment hold. A charge fails, the platform retries, the account shows an unpaid balance, and ads stop until it is settled. Sometimes extra restrictions appear on top. The good news is that most holds clear quickly once you take the right steps in the right order. The bad news is that panicked fixes, like adding and removing cards repeatedly, can make things worse. Here is a calm checklist.

Step 1: Find out exactly what is owed

Open the platform's billing section and look for the unpaid amount, the date of the failed charge and the card it tried to use. Write down three things:

  • the amount outstanding, including any tax shown;
  • the card ending the platform tried;
  • the reason, if the platform shows one.

Do not guess the amount from your campaign dashboard. Accrued spend, tax and timing mean the billing page is the only reliable figure.

Step 2: Work out why the charge failed

With a prepaid card, there are four usual suspects:

  1. Not enough balance. Compare the outstanding amount, including tax, with the card's balance in My Cards. Holds from earlier verification charges can also reduce what is available. This guide explains hidden reductions.
  2. Card expired. Check the thru date. A card that expired since it was added can no longer pay.
  3. Card frozen or closed. Check the card's status. A frozen card refuses every charge; see what a frozen status means.
  4. Details changed or mismatched. Rare after a card has worked before, but possible if someone edited the billing details on the platform.

Step 3: Get a card ready that can pay in full

If the old card cannot cover the outstanding amount, order a new one. Size it to cover the outstanding amount plus the spend you plan to resume, plus a margin. The order total is the balance plus 15% of it plus $5.00 for the card; the pricing calculator shows it. The new card has to pass review before you can use it. Paid orders are usually checked and issued within a few hours.

Resist the urge to split the unpaid balance across several small cards. Most platforms want the outstanding amount settled in one payment.

Step 4: Add the card and settle the balance once

  • Add the new card as a payment method, using the billing address shown with it exactly.
  • Look for an option to "pay now", "settle balance" or "retry payment". Use it once.
  • Wait for the payment to show as successful before doing anything else.

If the payment fails again, stop. Check the card details and the amount against the balance, then contact the platform's support rather than retrying repeatedly. Repeated failures look like suspicious activity to risk systems; why retrying backfires explains the reasoning.

Step 5: Restart carefully

Once the balance is paid, ads usually resume on their own or after you re-enable them. Before you do:

  • Set an account spending limit below the new card's balance, so the next shortfall pauses ads instead of failing a charge. Spend caps and card balances shows how.
  • Remove the old card if it is empty or expired, so the platform does not try it again.
  • Note the new card in your card logbook with its expiry date.

When the hold is about more than money

Sometimes a payment problem triggers a broader review of the account: the platform asks you to confirm identity, business details or ownership of the payment method. These reviews follow the platform's own rules and timelines. Answer their requests fully and honestly; there is no shortcut. If they ask you to confirm the card, the card's last four digits and billing address are usually what they need. Never send full card numbers by email or chat.

What not to do

  • Do not add and remove many cards in a short time.
  • Do not create a new ad account to escape the debt; platforms link accounts and this can lead to permanent restrictions.
  • Do not retry a failing payment again and again.
  • Do not share your ad account login with anyone offering to "unlock" it for a fee.

Quick answers

Will the platform charge interest on the unpaid amount?

Ad platforms generally do not, but they restrict the account until it is paid. Settle it promptly.

Can BuyVCC support remove a platform's payment hold?

No. Holds belong to the ad platform. We can help with anything about your card, such as its balance or status.

The new card was refused too. What now?

Check the billing address and amount, then contact the platform's support. Send us a ticket with the card ending if you suspect a card problem.

The how it works page explains how new cards are ordered and reviewed.
